ABOUT THE COLUMBIA COUNTY PLACEMAKING INITIATIVE
Columbia County municipal leaders, nonprofit organizations, businesses, artists, and residents are working on several projects to make Columbia County an even better place to live, work, play, and learn. The Columbia County Placemaking Initiative ties several of these projects together to coordinate resources and enhance our collective impact.
The initiative includes two components: planning and implementation.
In the planning phase (through September 30, 2023), the initiative will lead and coordinate the following projects:
-
Research to understand community conditions, needs, opportunities, and dreams;
-
A county-wide placemaking plan focused on housing, recreation and open space, community and arts spaces, and broadband;
-
A master site development plan for Briar Creek Lake Park; and
-
A plan to expand and enhance broadband service throughout the county.
There will be several opportunities for the community to get involved during the planning phase including a community survey, community meetings, and World Cafés.
During the implementation phase (October 1, 2023 through September 30, 2024), we will start working on the goals and actions in the plans while also providing technical assistance and professional development for local community leaders.
The Columbia County Placemaking Initiative is funded by a $250,000 United States Department of Agricultural Rural Placemaking Innovation Challenge (RPIC) grant.
